Position Summary/Job Duties:

K-8 Recess Monitor

Location: Edgewood Campus School, Madison, WI
Job Type: Part-Time / Hourly
Reports to: School Principal or Designee

Job Summary:

We're seeking a responsible and energetic K-8 Recess Monitor to supervise students during recess and ensure a safe, respectful, and inclusive play environment. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with children, working outside, and is committed to promoting a positive school climate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise students during recess, ensuring safety and appropriate behavior

  • Monitor playground areas and equipment to prevent unsafe activity

  • Encourage inclusive play and respectful peer interactions

  • Address minor conflicts and report significant issues to school staff

  • Uphold school rules and consistently enforce behavior expectations

  • Set up and clean up outdoor equipment as needed

  • Remain actively engaged and vigilant during recess periods

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and remain outdoors for extended periods

  • Able to lift up to 25 lbs and assist children physically if needed

Qualifications:

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)

  • Experience working with children (preferred)

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to stay calm in conflict or emergency situations

  • Capable of working outdoors in varying weather conditions

  • CPR/First Aid certification a plus
