Job Description
Fall Semester 2024

Summary: The Communications Intern will collaborate closely with the Pastor, Office Manager
and Membership Committee to (1) expand the church’s presence in print and social media; and
(2) design and implement a print media, direct mail, and digital marketing campaign.
Skills Gained:
1. Working effectively with a variety of media simultaneously, including social media
platforms, print media and direct mail as parts of a comprehensive marketing plan.
2. Collaborating with a staff team and volunteers of a small non-profit to develop a greater
media presence with limited resources.
3. Enhanced skills in managing WordPress (website), YouTube (livestream), and social
media (such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) to increase audience engagement.
4. Developing marketing content, both text and visual, to reach new audiences.
Hourly Commitment: Total: 10 hours/week, flexible schedule Sun-Thurs. Sunday morning
commitment is 2 hours at the church. Aside from Sunday morning, most of the work can be
accomplished remotely. This position pays $20/hour.
Specific Job Duties:
1. Promote church activities on Westminster’s Facebook page, church website
(westminstermadison.org) and Nextdoor.com, updating these platforms at least twice
weekly with church activities, pictures, and announcements.
2. Explore ways to expand the church’s presence on Facebook including digital advertising.
3. Initiate and then update church presence on other social media platforms such as
Twitter and Instagram.
4. Design and implement an advertising and digital marking campaign for the church,
including print media and direct mail, during Advent/Christmas (December 2024)
5. Assist AV Tech with weekly livestreaming on YouTube Sunday mornings. Explore ways to
increase church presence on YouTube and make recommendations.
6. Attend meetings of the Membership Committee (every other month) which oversees
church advertising.
7. Explore/monitor other church websites for marketing ideas and make
recommendations.
