Schedule:

Academic Year

  • Flexible scheduling based on your academic availability and operational need.
  • 5 hours a week required, 10-15 hours per week preferred.
  • Shifts are scheduled between 8:00AM-4:30PM Monday - Friday, some weekend hours as operationally needed.
  • Shifts are a minimum of 2 hours.

Summer

  • 25-40 hours per week, positions based on availability and operational need, flexible scheduling options may be available, schedule will be set up on hire.
  • Shifts are scheduled between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm Monday-Friday, some overtime may be available on weekends.
  • Seasonal: This position is considered seasonal during the summer months and is exempt from the 89-day rule in regard to the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Hours worked may exceed 30 hours/week during the summer months.

Salary/Wage Range:

Hourly $15.00 to $15.00

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The Student Locksmith assists within the Access/Keyshop, works independently on work orders, and collaborates with customers to provide excellent customer service. The Student Locksmith can learn problem-solving skills, balance time management, sharpen interpersonal communication, develop valuable leadership skills, practice critical thinking and creative problem solving, and work in a fun and challenging atmosphere. Assist Locksmith in cutting of keys, key inventory records, core replacement and repair of locks and doors. 

  • Perform routine locksmith duties including core changes and key cutting; assist key shop staff.
  • Provide backup for other key shop staff when they are unavailable.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repair of locks.
  • Issue keys as needed to individuals.
  • Use database software programs to maintain records.
  • Maintain standards of confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Promote a positive work environment by role modeling appropriate work behavior, strong work ethic, good decision making, critical thinking and a customer service attitude.
  • Assist with administrative tasks including entering data, and various short and long-term projects documentation.
  • Be professional and helpful at all times, communicate clearly and accurately, report building maintenance issues, follow-up with customers/staff as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Summer specific duties include:
    • Assist with projects that require buildings to be unoccupied, such as door replacement, access updates, and door hardware repairs
    • Assist in preparing keys and access for conference guests and fall move in
    • Conduct inspections and maintenance work in all halls related to operation of each residential door handle and locking mechanism

Qualifications:

  • Ability to lift objects weighing approximately 50 lbs.
  • Satisfactory results of a confidential criminal background check are required.
  • Current or previous residence halls facilities and office experience preferred.
  • A valid, unrestricted driver’s license which meets UW Risk Management standards is preferred.
