Seasonal: This position is considered seasonal during the summer months and is exempt from the 89-day rule in regards to the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Hours worked may exceed 30 hours/week during the summer months.

Position Summary/Job Duties:
Summer House Fellows are live-in student leaders responsible for role-modeling and fostering an academic environment and caring community for all residents within the residence halls. The live-in position provides services to students as well as to residential employees of University Housing for a very wide range of needs, including but not limited to: safety, emotional well-being, roommate issues, community/campus involvement and University of Wisconsin System and University Housing policy.
Summer House Fellows are also essential in ensuring that incoming students and their guests have an excellent SOAR experience. This position will assist with various tasks related to SOAR housing in residence halls.
Community building responsibilities include creation and distribution of door decorations, facilitation of house meetings, and creating and maintaining relevant bulletin boards. Proactively seek out in-person, one on one conversations with residents upon their arrival to provide support and resources
Planning and facilitation of weekly community builders in-unit. Chaperone trips off campus as scheduled and regularly attend and assist with events planned by the Residence Life Student Engagement Coordinator.
Provide overnight duty coverage responsibilities on a rotating basis for summer school residents, SOAR participants, and conference guests. Specific duty responsibilities include responding to lock-outs, checking in residents after the desk closes, completing walk-throughs of buildings, providing a visible security presence, and responding to disturbances and violations of University and Housing policy.
Assist with Fall/August transitional housing in and across residence halls.
Training for Summer responsibilities and cross-training with University Housing divisional partners as needed.
Be a positive ambassador and supportive resource for residents and guests for University Housing and the University of Wisconsin-Madison offerings, programs, and overall experience.
May serve on Lowell duty rotation to support SOAR guests.
Assist with other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Enrollment as a UW system student during Summer or upcoming Fall semester.
Successful completion of a confidential criminal background check.
Ability to work late night hours & weekends.
Driver’s Authorization Preferred
Preference may be given to candidates with previous experience as a House Fellow.
During pre-employment and employment, a student staff member must abide by the University Residence Halls Contract, the Student Housing Handbook and the University of Wisconsin System academic and non-academic policies and expectations.
Must have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA at the time of application, hire, start of employment, and through the duration of employment.
Be able to transport yourself around campus for work related tasks via bus, driver authorized housing vehicle or other means (bike, walking, etc.)
