Schedule:

Hours

  • Approximately 10-12 hours per week, often weekends and evenings.
  • Availability between 4:00pm and 7:15pm on Tuesdays to attend WISE seminar classes.
  • Flexible scheduling based on academic availability and operational need.
  • Summer hours are based on operational need.
  • The commitment of substantial amounts of time to interests other than academic or staff responsibilities requires prior approval from the supervisor. Outside time commitments should be a maximum of 6-10 hours per week. Internship/practicum/production experience that require staff to be absent from campus more than 16 hours a week, including, but not limited to, student teaching, theater, nursing, and pharmacy could impact candidacy.

Paid training with current WISE Student Program Leads to be held at mutually convenient times between April 21, 2025-May 2, 2025

Significant additional hours required between August 18-September 3 for training, Peer Mentor training, and new student welcome activities.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The WISE Student Program Lead has substantial responsibility for developing, executing, administering, and leading the WISE Peer Mentors and community-wide program activities in coordination with the WISE Program Manager and Residence Life Coordinator.

  • In collaboration with the WISE Program Manager and the WISE Residence Life Coordinator, supervise, train, lead and act as a resource and mentor to the WISE Peer Mentors including overseeing mentor meetings.
  • Manage a wide range of administrative tasks in relating to all aspects of WISE including student programming, Peer Mentors, WISE Seminar, outreach, evaluation.
  • Plan, organize, implement and evaluate activities for the WISE Learning Community.
  • Guide and advise Peer Mentors in planning activities that promote the mission and learning outcomes of WISE.
  • Oversee programming and outreach for prospective WISE students including facilitating WISE tour program and tabling opportunities, and developing and assembling appropriate materials.
  • Develop and disseminate WISE materials including marketing for prospective students, flyers to promote WISE activities, social media and other strategies.
  • Work with WISE Faculty Directors on the administration and execution of the WISE seminar, including attending weekly seminar.
  • Conduct performance evaluations of the Peer Mentors each semester; meet with Peer Mentors to fulfill WiGrow requirements.
  • Connect and develop relationships and programming with campus and community partners.
  • Create and update materials to support mentors including the mentor guidebook/training manual and weekly reports.
  • Collect, track and analyze quantitative and qualitative data regarding WISE programming including assessing the impact and needs of the WISE program.
  • Work closely with WISE house fellows to develop and execute community programs.
  • Staff WISE programs as needed.
  • Provide administrative support for WISE budget tracking and supply ordering.
  • Attend and participate in the bi-weekly WISE staff meetings.
  • Facilitate regular peer mentor meetings.

Qualifications:

  • By the start of employment, must have completed four semesters of college post high school. Summer school does not count as a semester.  Transfer students must submit transcripts from all current/previous institutions to reflect the completion of two semesters post high school.
  • During pre-employment and employment, a student staff member must abide by the University Residence Halls Contract, the Student Housing Handbook and the University of Wisconsin System academic and non-academic policies and expectations.
  • Must be able to attend training on the dates listed above in Additional Scheduling Notes.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who are former WISE residents.
