Position Summary/Job Duties:

We are University professors with twin 6-year-olds who are energetic, sweet, and fun. They are also autistic, mostly nonspeaking (have communication devices), sensory-seeking, and have high support needs (but are not physically disabled or medically fragile). They started 5K this fall and are loving school! We are seeking after school and/or weekend support. They benefit from a lot of one-on-one support and engagement in activities. They love spending time with people, learning new things, being outside in the backyard, and playing in our basement sensory gym or nearby playgrounds/parks. They also like outings to places like Play N Wisconsin (where we have a membership).

Depending on the day, you may be spending time with both of them until one or both parents arrive home, spending one-on-one time with one child while the other is with another respite provider, supervising and supporting while they are in in-home speech/music/yoga therapies, or accompanying a parent to therapy outside the home (like occupational therapy or swimming).

It is NOT a requirement that you transport the children (though that is certainly a possibility). We are about a 5 minute walk from the D bus line (which I take to and from campus most of the time myself). We also have ample parking in our driveway and on the street.

We are seeking support on Wednesdays 3:30-6pm (could stay longer) and Thursdays 3:30-6pm (could stay longer) as well as weekend shifts of 3+ hours at a time on Saturday and/or Sunday. Option to work additional hours on days that school is closed for a holiday or teacher work day and to extend into the summer months.

Qualifications:

Experience or interest in working with neurodivergent, autistic, high support needs, sensory seeking, speech delayed/nonspeaking kids or kids using communication devices

High energy or willingness to be physically active (walks, pushing on swings, being outside, etc.)

Priortizes safety with an interest in fostering learning, communication, and joy

Nonsmoker
