Department Overview:
The Wisconsin Union, often referred to as "the heart and soul" of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has enhanced the lives of members and visitors since it was founded in 1907. Since 1928, when the doors to Memorial Union opened, the Wisconsin Union has served as the living room of the UW-Madison campus. The Union connects students, faculty, staff, members and visitors through shared cultural, social and recreational events and experiences.

Position Summary/Job Duties:
Event Management:
Oversee events at Wisconsin Union properties, including setting up audio-visual services, responding to event services requests while ensuring programming runs successfully and according to scheduled event times.
Communicate professionally with clients, event organizers, and Union staff to effectively meet event needs and customer expectations
Building Security/Safety/Conflict Resolution:
Responsible for opening, closing, and securing Union buildings on evenings & weekends
Respond to emergencies and conduct emergency procedures (severe weather, fire alarms, Wiscalerts)
Notify proper parties (UWPD Non-Emergency, 9-1-1, etc)
Capably respond to customer issues and complaints
Deescalate patron issues and conflicts
Enforce campus & Union policies and respond effectively to non-abiding customers
Qualifications:
Demonstrate a commitment to the success of the Wisconsin Union and provide the quality experience that encourages committed professional participation
Strong communication skills and a willingness to take initiative and lead student staff
Excellent customer service skills
Ability to manage time in a fast paced environment
Analytical, insightful, and a highly disciplined problem solver with a demonstrated ability to identify and secure resources when needed.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office products
Previous experience in a leadership role preferred
Ability to work evenings and weekends
Commitment to working at least 2 consecutive academic semesters and/or 12 months
Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check
Student Status
To be eligible for the Wisconsin Union positions, you must be currently enrolled in a college, university, or highschool (at least 16). It is not permissible to hire a person as a student hourly employee if they are taking credits merely to be eligible for student hourly employment. Review UW Policy 5003- Student Hourly Employment for more information. If school is in break period (summer, spring, winter), applicants must intend to enroll in courses the following semester.
