This is a seasonal position beginning in May and ending in August.  Hours for this position will vary between 40-45 per week and include nights and weekends.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The Pool Manager oversees the safe and proper operation of the Monona Community Pool, including scheduling, supervising, and training pool staff; ordering and maintaining supplies; managing the pool's concession stand; and addressing patron complaints, inquiries, and information requests.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Write and maintain schedules for lifeguards, swim lesson instructors, and swim lesson helpers.
  • Assign lifeguard rotations and other staff duties.
  • Assist in pre-season staff training and ongoing staff training during the season.
  • Coordinate, conduct and document weekly staff in-service sessions throughout the pool season.
  • Conduct and document at least three "red shirt" drills and three out of water emergencies throughout the summer.
  • Track employee hours and ensure compliance with labor regulations.
  • Address employee comments, questions, and issues and enforce personnel policies consistently.
  • Manage inventory, personnel, and operations of the pool's concession stand.
  • Address patron complaints, comments, and suggestions in a professional manner and assist patrons as necessary by providing program information, answering public inquiries, posting notices, and interpreting pool rules and policies.
  • Maintain daily logs of water chemistry, weather, and all other activities at the pool.
  • Ensure that appropriate emergency care is provided to facility patrons when needed; follow up with incident/accident report forms and rescue forms when necessary.
  • Ensure a clean work environment by performing daily checks of pool decks, locker rooms, concession areas and office areas; delegate cleaning tasks as needed.
  • Keep an up-to-date inventory of all equipment and supplies (i.e. guard equipment, first aid supplies, and swim lesson equipment) and report any equipment that needs repair or replacement.
  • Ensure that all facility rules and safety guidelines are followed and report breaches of rules as necessary.
  • Seek and maintain knowledge of advances in techniques, equipment, and methods of lifesaving activities and answer questions from subordinates on these techniques and activities.
  • Keep Aquatics Director informed of schedules, swim lesson changes, weather issues, staffing issues, and patron concerns.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must have supervisory experience; experience supervising teens or young adults is preferred.
  • Aquatics or lifeguard experience is preferred, but not required.

Outdoor work in heat and humidity; occasional long hours; ability to react quickly and decisively in an emergency situation; loud and busy work environment
