Department Overview:

The City of Monona is located just a few miles from campus, on the southern and eastern shores of Lake Monona. Monona offers part-time, seasonal, and internship positions for students, as well as career opportunities for graduates.

Schedule:

This is a limited-term, seasonal (summer) position beginning in June and ending in August.  Hours for this position will vary from 15-40 per week and will include days, evenings, and weekends. 

Salary/Wage Range:

Hourly $12.50 to $20.00

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Under the general direction of the Aquatic Director and supervision of the pool managers and head lifeguards, Monona Pool lifeguards ensure the safety of all pool patrons.  A free lifeguard certifcation class will be offered May 17-24.  

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures the health, safety and welfare of those using the Monona Community Pool
  • Supervises the activities of pool patrons by enforcing rules and regulations
  • Performs pool maintenance and facility cleaning duties
  • Responds to emergency situations; administers first aid and primary care as needed
  • Assists the public as necessary by providing program information, answering public inquiries, handling or referring complaints, posting notices and interpreting pool rules and policies
  • Attends all mandatory in-service trainings as required by the Aquatic Director

Qualifications:

  1. Must be a proficient swimmer
  2. Must have a current certification in Red Cross Lifeguard/ First Aid/ CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer (free certifcation class offered May 17-24).
  3. Must be willing to work flexible hours including nights and weekends
  4. Excellent customer service skills – this position serves as an ambassador for the City and must engage the public in a respectful, professional and positive manner

Physical Demands

Outdoor work in heat and humidity; ability to react quickly and decisively in an emergency situation; loud and busy work environment
