Department Overview:

The Wisconsin Union, often referred to as "the heart and soul" of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has enhanced the lives of members and visitors since it was founded in 1907. Since 1928, when the doors to Memorial Union opened, the Wisconsin Union has served as the living room of the UW-Madison campus. The Union connects students, faculty, staff, members and visitors through shared cultural, social and recreational events and experiences.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

  • Greeting and welcoming guests to the Terrace area in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Providing information about Terrace amenities, events, and policies to visitors.
  • Monitoring and enforcing Terrace and Union policies to ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain a positive atmosphere.
  • Assisting guests with any inquiries, concerns, or issues they may have during their visit.
  • Collaborating with Terrace staff and management to address any emerging issues or concerns promptly.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in the Terrace area, including monitoring trash disposal and cleaning up spills or messes as needed.
  • Reporting any incidents or policy violations to the appropriate authorities or management.
  • Demonstrating excellent customer service skills and embodying a helpful and approachable demeanor at all times.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of Terrace and Union policies, or willingness to undergo training on policies and regulations.
  • Previous experience in customer service or hospitality preferred.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, and move around the Terrace area for extended periods.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check

Student Status

  • To be eligible for the Wisconsin Union positions, you must be currently enrolled in a college, university, or highschool (at least 16). It is not permissible to hire a person as a student hourly employee if they are taking credits merely to be eligible for student hourly employment. Review UW Policy 5003- Student Hourly Employment for more information. If school is in break period (summer, spring, winter), applicants must intend to enroll in courses the following semester.
