Position Summary/Job Duties:

Assistant to homeowner: Retired business executive needs help with tasks and projects both inside and outside my home

Inside: Document management (scanning and shredding); Help me get rid of excess stuff:  research value, sell online, via yard sale, or donate; Install window screens; Digitizing photos; Vacuuming & some cleaning; Lots of miscellaneous

Outside:  Gardening (planting seedlings, mulching, weeding, watering, transplanting, raking); Spring cleaning of yard furniture; Window cleaning (alongside me); Garage cleanout; Other miscellaneous

Job location: The corner of N Baldwin St and Elizabeth St. (by bike, 20 minutes from Camp Randal to my place.)  If you don't have a bike I can probably set you up with a loaner.

References:  None needed, but I am the co-founder of a successful engineering company, and a property development firm.  Along the way and I’ve helped several young people move their careers forward, including some who started here as my assistant. If you work smart as well as hard, I’ll be happy to provide a reference that outlines your successes and your strengths.

Qualifications:

Minimum skills needed:  Intelligence, reliability, and persistence. Enough strength to handle basic gardening. Also, and I’m not kidding, the ability to stay off your phone while working.

Extra skills I’m hoping you have:  The tasks may not seem to require higher order thinking, but I’d like to work with someone who can approach the job with the mindset of a Project Manager, meaning the ability to:  See the whole job and its component steps; ask questions at the onset; set interim goals, track your effort; stay curious about ways to work smarter; and very important…communicate effectively.

Physical Demands

Gardening involves digging holes, digging up and dividing mature plants, raking, spreading mulch, some shallow trenching
