Seasonal: This position is considered seasonal during the summer months in regards to the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Hours worked may exceed 30 hours/week during the summer months.

Position Summary/Job Duties:
The Maintenance and Trades Student Supervisor supervises a team of student maintenance and/or trades technicians that complete a series of tasks and projects which assist in the overall quality and condition of our buildings, and service to our residents and guests. This role works directly with Maintenance Supervisors to create priority lists, conduct training and ensure the accurate completion of work assigned by responsible unit.
Promote a positive work environment by role modeling appropriate work behavior, strong work ethic, good decision making, critical thinking and a customer service attitude
Supervise a team of student maintenance technicians, including WiGrow conversations, proficiency reviews, providing feedback, training, leading meetings, inspecting work areas, reporting work rule violations and giving direction to staff. Scheduling student staff to work their shifts.
Serve as unit timekeeper for timecard audit and sign off of student employees
Plan, lead and execute assigned projects independently or with others (ex: window AC installation, filter replacements, servicing small equipment)
Track, maintain and communicate with staff and supervisors the completion status of assigned tasks to work group responsible for using various methods including, our work order management system.
Serve as a point of contact and provide leadership for work unit on days when full-time supervisors are not available
Be professional and helpful at all times, communicate clearly and accurately, report building maintenance issues, follow-up with customers as needed
Personally perform as well as lead and assist other student and career staff in completing:
Inspect rooms for damaged or broken furniture
Inventory life safety equipment (ex: exit devices, egress signage, fire extinguishers, etc)
Inventory hand tools required for work; submit an order request to supervisor if supplies are low
Complete overhead work using ladders (ex: changing lightbulbs, replacing ceiling tiles)
Other duties as assigned
Summer specific Duties:
Conduct (and train and supervise others on) priority repairs in buildings occupied by residents, short-term stay summer conference guests.
Complete work that requires residence hall buildings including vent cleaning, filter replacements, smoke detector battery replacements and fixture updates
Organize, train, schedule and supervise installation of window air conditioners, including annual cleaning and maintenance
Qualifications:
Must be able to regularly lift objects weighing approximately 50 lbs
Must be able to stand, bend, stoop, and squat to perform work
A valid, unrestricted driver’s license which meets UW Risk Management standards required
Prior experience conducting maintenance or trades tasks preferred
Prior experience managing other individuals work tasks preferred
Preference given to applicants with experience in University Housing Facilities
