Department Overview:
The Wisconsin Union, often referred to as "the heart and soul" of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has enhanced the lives of members and visitors since it was founded in 1907. Since 1928, when the doors to Memorial Union opened, the Wisconsin Union has served as the living room of the UW-Madison campus. The Union connects students, faculty, staff, members and visitors through shared cultural, social and recreational events and experiences.

Schedule:
Anticipated Schedule
Variable based on programming needs and scheduled events. Facilitators will be offered shifts supporting private group art experiences, drop-in activities, campus events, and special programs. Evening and weekend availability is preferred.
Minimum Hour Expectation
No minimum weekly hours are guaranteed. Hours depend on event schedules and staffing needs, with opportunities ranging from 0–16 hours per week.
Unit Hours
Wheelhouse Studios operates 7 days a week, from noon–10:00 PM. Shifts may occasionally occur outside these regular hours based on event and program needs.

Position Summary/Job Duties:
Prepare materials, tools, and creative spaces for group artmaking experiences
Assist with private group experiences, campus partnerships, and public activities such as drop-in art programs and special events
Facilitate creative experiences in a clear, engaging, and supportive manner
Create a welcoming, inclusive environment that encourages creativity and participation among diverse audiences
Provide excellent customer service and represent Wheelhouse Studios in a positive and professional manner
Support safe and responsible use of equipment, tools, and materials
Assist with setup, breakdown, and cleanup as needed
Collect participant feedback and evaluations to support program improvement
Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Comfortable speaking in front of groups and adapting to participant needs
Ability to follow creative processes and facilitate step-by-step instructions
Reliability, punctuality, and strong time management skills
Comfortable working with a variety of art materials (paint, clay, collage, printmaking, etc.) and willingness to learn new techniques as needed
Interest in the arts, creativity, community engagement, or education preferred
No prior teaching or facilitation experience required; training will be provided
Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check
Student Status
To be eligible for the Wisconsin Union positions, you must be currently enrolled in a college, university, or highschool (at least 16). It is not permissible to hire a person as a student hourly employee if they are taking credits merely to be eligible for student hourly employment. Review UW Policy 5003- Student Hourly Employment for more information. If school is in break period (summer, spring, winter), applicants must intend to enroll in courses the following semester.
