Work Study eligible and currently enrolled student
Interest in elementary education or literacy tutoring.
Ideal for students who have available chunks of time within their class schedule.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Strong written and oral communication skills
Strong organizational skills
Prior tutoring experience (not required)

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Schools of Hope is an AmeriCorps program that provides literacy tutoring support to elementary students through the placement of AmeriCorps members, community volunteers, and work-study students. 

Schools of Hope tutors provide literacy tutoring support to elementary students at various elementary schools throughout Madison. Tutors will report to the school's corresponding AmeriCorps member, who will assist in setting up a tutoring schedule depending on student and classroom needs. Schools of Hope tutors will be paired with students and/or assist with literacy intervention in classrooms. Tutoring sessions will be guided by current classroom curriculum. 

Tutors must complete a required MMSD background check and required virtual trainings. 
Job Responsibilities: 

Tutor students to support their success in current literacy curriculum.
Ensure that tutoring sessions align with best practices.
Fill in for tutoring sessions as needed and assist other team members in ensuring math preparedness for program.
Support students in a fun and professional manner.
Develop and maintain relationships with students, volunteers, AmeriCorps Member, teachers, and other staff.
Report to and collaborate with AmeriCorps Member; communicate scheduling conflicts as needed.
Log hours regularly.
