Department Overview:

The WISC (Wisconsin Intelligibility, Speech, and Communication) Lab at the Waisman Center is dedicated to the study of communication development in children with cerebral palsy (CP) and speech development of typically developing children.

Schedule:

Interested participants will be screened for eligibility. If you are interested in participating, please visit our website https://kidspeech.wisc.edu/bilingual-study/ and complete the eligibility survey. If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can schedule an appointment via website link.

The study includes up to 2 sessions at the Waisman Center. The first session may take 45-90 minutes (depending on group eligibility). The second session may take 20-30 minutes.

Qualifications:

Participants must:
• be 21-35 years old,
• be bilingual and learned English as a second language OR English monolingual,
• have normal hearing, and
• and no known disabilities

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The purpose of the study is to answer the question: what is the effect of bilingualism on speech intelligibility of children and adolescents and listener experience?

Participation includes 1.) listening to short speech clips from children and adolescents then typing what you hear, 2.) answering questions about your listening experience, and 3.) completing questionnaires and standardized tests.
