Successful applicants will have an interest in chemistry, especially in learning the more technical side of what makes a lab run smoothly and safely. Successful candidates will be able to work well alone or in a small team, and will communicate with other student workers and staff supervisors to develop proactive and reactive solutions to problems encountered in the lab space. Successful candidates will demonstrate professionalism and a willingness to learn on the fly as the semester develops.

Stockroom assistants will be responsible for ensuring student labs run without incident. This may include changing lab materials between lab periods, distributing laboratory equipment, refilling and replacing laboratory reagents and solutions, and serving as a first point of contact for students, LAs, and TAs.

Stockroom assistants will also be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and chemical hygiene of the lab spaces. This may include sweeping and cleaning laboratory spaces between labs, washing glassware, and performing basic maintenance on lab equipment.

Depending on experience, assistants will be able to gain experience preparing solutions and reagents in large quantities. They may be called upon to perform experiments for testing purposes, as well.

Some assistants may, in the morning and evening, have additional responsibilities to open and close access to the lab space.

Standing for periods of time (~ 1 hour,) completing repetitive tasks, occasionally helping lift or move objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
