Department Overview:

Research in the Lee Lab focuses on evolutionary genetic and physiological mechanisms that enable populations to transition into novel habitats. Applications include analyzing rapid evolutionary mechanisms involved during biological invasions and in response to climate change. Qualifications:

• Interest in animals (crustaceans, invertebrates), plankton, microorganisms, and/or algae
• Interest in genetics, evolution, and/or physiology
• Strong interest in the environment
• Responsible, consistent, and organized
• Able to perform tedious tasks carefully
• Good capacity to assess gaps in one's own knowledge and abilities
• Intellectual curiosity and ability to ask questions
• Ability to take initiative when needed
• Problem solving, quantitative, and analytical skills
• Ability to work with others and cooperate

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Background in Biology
• Strong quantitative skills
• Good writing skills
• Meticulous, good attention to detail

Position Summary/Job Duties:

• Washing and autoclaving laboratory glassware
• Mixing chemical solutions
• Culturing copepods and algae
• Helping graduate students and postdocs with their experiments

If performance is exemplary, there are many opportunities for conducting research, including performing experiments and genetic data analysis. Careful work must be demonstrated first.

Physical Demands:

• Lifting carboys of water
• Fieldwork to collect lake water
• Washing laboratory glassware
• Distinguishing between red and green algae
• Observing copepods (1-2 mm)
