Department Overview:

The Center for Educational Opportunity (CeO) is a diverse, multifaceted, federally and state-funded center that strives to create equal opportunities in higher education. CeO promotes access to resources, academic achievement and personal growth for students whose parents have not received a four-year degree, students who meet specific federal family income guidelines, and students with documented disabilities.

CeO is comprised of the federally funded TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) and Student Support Services-STEM (SSS-STEM) Programs and the state-funded Academic Success and Achievement Program (ASAP). The overall mission of CeO is to increase access, retention, and graduation rates at the University of Wisconsin-Madison for CeO Scholars. In order to achieve this, CeO Advisors and Staff embrace a personal approach and provide support in every aspect of the student’s path to achievement and success.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:
● Must be a CeO Scholar.
● Must have “good academic standing” status.
● Must commit (work) to a full academic year.
● Willing to create a healthy and safe space for our CeO scholars and build community and connections.
● Must be punctual and committed to the necessary time for Eboard meetings, collaboration meetings, advisor meeting, events/programs/general meetings during the academic year.
● Be self-directed, dependable, adaptable, and flexible.
● Must take initiative to lead or support.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge (recommended):

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Description & Responsibilities of CeO Student Leaders:
● CeO Student Leaders main responsibility is to provide a space for CeO scholars to engage and interact with each other by the following methods: programs, events or workshops. (I.E cultural events, general meetings, selfcare day, study jams, wheelhouse studios, etc)
● Host minimum of 2 events/programs/workshops during the academic year
● Host minimum of 1 collaboration event/program/workshop during the academic year
● Keep documentation and records of Eboard notes, program/event/workshop attendance and receipts.
● Communicate weekly with Eboard members and Advisor
● Practice respectful and inclusive behavior when working eboard members, scholars, staff and guests
● Encouraged CeO scholars to attend events/programs/workshops

Time Commitment & Compensation:
● Commit from August 2024 to May 2025 duration of the program as it is an important and integral expectation of the position
● During the academic year, the CeO Student Leaders will need to dedicate one to six hours (depending on the type of event/program/workshop) to host their activity. This will also apply to collaboration meetings and its activity.
● CeO scholars who apply to be a Student Leader will be paid up to 3 hours per week, in some cases you will earn more hours when hosting your activities and participating in collaboration meetings and its activity (I.E student leaders summit, onboarding, student leader activities, student leader retreat and etc)

Mandatory Dates of Importance to the Student Leaders Position:
● To ensure that all Student Leaders are prepared for the upcoming year, it is crucial to foster a positive group dynamic that will prepare a team to rise to the challenges of planning events/programs/workshops. Therefore, onboarding is designed to create an open dialogue between Student Leaders and CeO Staff concerning expectations, planning activities, RSO resources, team building activities, policies, and best practices

Student Leaders onboarding:
● During the summer or in August (Date will be determine by student's availability)
Potential DDEEA Student Leader Meet & Greet:
● Beginning of Fall & Spring semester
Student Leader Winter Retreat:
● During winter break (Date will be determine by student’s availability)
