Department Overview:

The University of Wisconsin has a long history of excellence in sleep research and sleep medicine, with faculty across multiple departments and schools that are internationally recognized for their expertise in epidemiology, neurophysiology, molecular biology, genetics, neurology and sleep disorders, as well as for their leadership role in sleep research and sleep medicine. Founded in 2017, the Wisconsin Institute for Sleep and Consciousness (WISC) is an academic sleep center housing a multi-disciplinary clinical sleep program complemented by a world-class research group that addresses multiple aspects of both sleep and consciousness.

Schedule:

This job will require working Friday evenings and/or Saturday mornings every week. The hours for Friday evenings would be from 5 pm-11pm. Saturday morning hours would be approximately 7 am-11 am. If interested, a motivated student could also monitor overnight sleep studies on Friday nights from midnight to 10 am.

Qualifications:

Must be a full-time student
Must be able and willing to work with vulnerable research participants ranging in age from 7-18 years.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills
Ability to work within a large team of researchers.
Reliability is absolutely essential.
Given distance from campus, a car is preferred.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The position will perform high density EEG set up for two research studies focused on youth with trauma exposure and/or anxiety. This involves learning to apply a high density EEG recording net (256 channels), set up computer system for EEG collection and run computer tasks. The overnight position requires learning to recognize/stage all-night sleep recording and navigate recording software and hardware.

Physical Demands:

The work requires ability to stand for up to 5 hours and ability to lift equipment (up to 20 pounds).
