Department Overview:

Precollege Enrichment Opportunity Program for Learning Excellence (PEOPLE) is a college prep program for students in the Madison Metropolitan School District and the Milwaukee Public School District. The program is designed for students with strong academic potential, identifies with one of UW Systems targeted minority groups and/or is low-income; most of whom are the first in their families to potentially attend college.

Their journey prepares them to apply, be successfully admitted, and enroll at University of Wisconsin System institutions with an emphasis on University of Wisconsin-Madison. PEOPLE provides college prep services by providing programming and opportunity for
growth in four areas:
1. Build and Master Academic Knowledge
2. Build Cognitive Skills and Strategies
3. Build Self-Management Skills
4. Build Knowledge about College through Experiential Learning

Students who are accepted into the University of Wisconsin-Madison may be eligible for a four-year tuition scholarship and support services from our College Scholars Program.

Schedule:

For in-person CRMs: Monday – Friday from 3:30 – 6 PM
For Virtual CRMs, via Teams, which is for UW-Madison students: 4:30 – 7 PM

(Employees must work at least 2 days each week)

Qualifications:

Candidate must have experience tutoring/mentoring college bound students. Preferably in the subjects of Math, Science, English, and Foreign Languages.

Experience working with high school students; experience working with students from diverse backgrounds is preferred.

Must satisfy a criminal background check, successfully complete the I9 verification process, and attend all required compliance trainings.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Reflective listening, Enthusiasm for education and mentoring, Flexibility, Respectful and Inclusive, Observant, Creative, and Empathetic.

CRMs tutoring in math subjects may need to complete a math competency test.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The College Readiness Mentor (CRM) is a person who will work in-person/virtually at a particular Academic Center for Enrichment (ACE) site and serves as a mentor to high school PEOPLE Participants.

The CRM engages students in:
-Teambuilding and social/emotional wellness activities that are prepared by PEOPLE Educational Content Specialists and Precollege Advisors
-Learning how to succeed in high school academic life so that they are prepared for college academic life
-Researching information about UW college services and resources that will provide students social and academic support CRMs are expected to serve as role models according to PEOPLE standards and compliance regulations.

The in-person ACE site locations are:
Rufus King High School
Golda Meir Upper Campus
Milwaukee School of Languages
Ronald Reagan High School

For UW Madison students wanting to tutor virtually, ACE site will be held on Teams Monday-Thursday 4:30-7pm.
