Position Summary/Job Duties:

Arts + Literature Lab (ALL) houses four beautiful exhibition spaces that house art shows throughout the year. Gallery Sitters are responsible for “opening” and “closing” the galleries most Saturdays from 12-5PM. Opening and closing a gallery is much like opening and closing a restaurant: the Gallery Sitter will unlock the gallery spaces, turn on the lights, activate any art pieces with audio, tech or lighting elements. At the end of the day, the Gallery Sitter will reverse this process and lock up the gallery spaces. ALL is looking for a reliable employee who will ensure that the art on display is respected by visitors and who will be available to answer some questions about the organization and the artwork on display.
This position also includes an education studio aspect, as ALL often holds Saturday morning classes that begin at 9 or 10AM. On mornings when classes are taking place, the student employee will be responsible for unlocking and setting up the education studio, making coffee and tea for participants, directing students, and supporting the Teaching Artist as needed.

Physical Demands:

On mornings when classes are taking place, the student employee will be responsible for unlocking and setting up the education studio, making coffee and tea for participants, and moving tables, or directing students to supplies as needed. Some light lifting, and the ability to maneuver between 3 floors of the building, are necessary.
