The Computer Systems Laboratory, located in 2350, provides technical support for a wide range of computing platforms and technology.

Schedule:

The Computer Systems Laboratory has very flexible scheduling. Hours may be set by a manager, but in general hours are self-scheduled week to week.

Qualifications:

Must qualify for student hourly employment.

Ability to typically work approximately 15 hours a week (mostly during the day on weekdays), with the possibility of scheduled duties mornings, weeknights, and weekends.

Ability to problem-solve, make decisions, and work independently or with others as appropriate to the task at hand.

Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with customers and coworkers both person-to-person and by email.

Excellent time management skills.

Strong basic computer skills.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Technical familiarity with modern computer systems, especially Linux or Windows
Programming experience with one or more of Python, Perl, Java, Javascript, PHP, C/C++, and modern web technologies.

A strong desire to learn will be considered in lieu of experience in any of the above areas.

An understanding of different educational, technical, and cultural backgrounds, in order to communicate effectively with our end-users.

Two or more years remaining as a student.

Applicants with more advanced experience will be considered for both general and more specialized tasks.:

DEV/OPS

IT Security

Modern web technologies

Network infrastructure and management

Linux or Windows system administration

Training and Documentation

Position Summary/Job Duties:

As a Student System Administrator, you'll help our six full time IT staff members provide computing resources and support for about 6,000 students, faculty, and staff. Regularly, you'll respond to requests for help using CS computing facilities, use monitoring tools to detect and/or prevent problems with department IT services, support computing hardware in various stages of its lifecycle, oversee/operate our daily backup system, and develop and maintain software tools and mechanisms to improve our group's efficiency and service.

Interviews will occur in January either in-person or via Zoom.

Physical Demands:

Ability to lift, deliver, and install computer equipment.
