Department Overview:

4-H involves youth in project-based education. Through project learning, youth can explore their interests (“sparks”) and master new skills. 4-H projects are meant to be hands on to create a memorable learning experience. Since 4-H started in the early 1900s, youth have learned by doing. This hands-on process allows youth to understand not only how to do something but also why they are doing it.

Schedule:

Hours will vary by week, depending on programming. Intern will be expected to work all of summer camp, June 9-13. Also, some evening and weekend events.

Qualifications:

• Ability to be self-directed and self-motivated.
• Experience with Microsoft Office computer software and social media platforms.
• Positive attitude and commitment to teamwork in a collaborative environment.
• Ability to creatively and flexibly solve problems as they arise.
• Ability to work well with adult volunteers and youth.
• Strong commitment to Extension’s mission & 4-H Youth Development principles and practices.
Employment will require a criminal background check
Student must be enrolled for credit at an educational institution. Student will need to show proof of enrollment before starting.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• A post-secondary student 18 years of age or older (Twenty-one years and older preferred).
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Interest and/or experience in youth-related outreach education.
• Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds.
• Evidence of effective leadership skills in school or community organizations.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

This position is temporary, working approximately 500 hours. The 4-H Summer Intern will increase their knowledge of youth development programs, community partnerships, volunteer development, Extension Service and 4-H Youth Program Coordinator responsibilities. This summer position provides valuable pre-professional experience for educational and community-based careers. The 4-H Summer Intern is supervised by the Eau Claire County 4-H Educator and the Area 6 Extension Director.

Physical Demands:

Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs. of equipment and have the energy to lead youth activities effectively.
