Department Overview:

This student position supports the School of Medicine and Public Health's Department of Psychiatry, which is located at 6001 Research Blvd, also known as the Wisconsin Psychiatric Institute and Clinics (WisPIC). There you will be working with SMPH faculty and staff a shared UW research and clinical, i.e., patient-facing, environment.

Compliance with UW-Madison, SMPH and UW Health Covid safety protocols is mandatory, such as influenza vaccinations.

We provide support 200+ individuals at WisPIC and nearly 500 devices.

There will be an opportunity to work over the summer.

Schedule:

Scheduling is largely flexible and requires availability during normal business hours (8:00am-4:30pm) Monday through Friday.

We are looking for a student hourly position to work between 8 and 25 hours per week.

No weekend work.

Qualifications:

Willingness to learn new work processes (checklist-like) and take the initiative. A great sense of organization of computer hardware is always a plus.

Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively, while maintaining effective communication in written and oral form.

Summarizing technical problems for less-technical savvy persons and ability to see both the small and large pictures of things.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Basic troubleshooting capability for hardware and software problems is preferred but not required.

Basic familiarity with both Mac and Windows computers is preferred but not required.

You'll make an great candidate if you typically find yourself solving problems for friends and family, have a great eye for detail, and enjoy consistency and thoroughness!

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Major responsibilities may include:

-Computer equipment placement and retrieval
-Inventorying and organizing equipment
-Setting up AV equipment in conferences rooms on a regular (scheduled) basis
-Reporting and reading important resources
-Coordinating delivery of equipment to users
-Answer the phone, take messages, escalate problems as appropriate

Other responsibilities may include:
-Complete other longer-term projects as assigned
-Training on WordPress to maintain websites
-Other duties as assigned
