Qualifications:
This position is for UW-Madison graduate students. Student must be enrolled for a minimum of 2 credits during the academic year to hold this position.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
• Enthusiasm to work as a champion and liaison for Water@UW-Madison. • Written communication skills • Conference, event, gallery or exhibit planning experience • Organizational experience, ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently • Mentorship or interest in mentoring support programs • Experience managing web sites, newsletters or social media • The ideal candidate would be interested in water scholarship, interdisciplinary research and working to promote water studies at UW-Madison.
Position Summary/Job Duties:
Water@UW-Madison is in need of an hourly Graduate Project Assistant to lead all aspects of the Flow Project and to assist with administration and event planning for Water@UW-Madison more broadly. Water@UW-Madison is an umbrella organization of over 150 water researchers working to create a vibrant and ever-growing water community. Water@UW-Madison’s Flow project pairs undergraduate student artists in the University of Wisconsin System with water professionals from across the state to create art inspired by water. Candidates for this position must be able to take initiative, work independently and possess administrative, computer and organizational skills. • Manage all aspects of the flow project, including recruitment, budgets, communication, administration and event planning. • Plan and host at least one in-person Flow exhibit on the UW-Madison campus. • Coordinate with external partners to implement the Flow project on other UW System campuses. • Co-lead the Water@UW-Madison Fall Art & Science Poster Session and the Water@UW-Madison Spring Symposium. • Contribute to agendas and attend weekly Water@UW-Madison core team meetings. • Schedule and attend monthly executive committee meetings, keep and provide meeting minutes. • Assist with affiliate recruitment and nurturing, conduct routine and timely communications, manage affiliate database. • Assist with Freshwater@UW Summer Research Opportunities Program • Contribute to development and maintenance of the Water@UW-Madison website and social media presence. • Assist with other Water@UW-Madison initiatives as they arise. • Additional projects well suited to the PA’s strengths and interests that will advance Water@UW-Madison’s goals.
Physical Demands:
Ability to work from a computer and attend in-person events.
