Qualifications:
Employee must be currently enrolled at UW-Madison, and be willing to work nights, weekends, intersessions, and breaks.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
Required: 1) Comfort in working independently to ensure people and spaces are safe 2) Excellent sense of judgement 3) Can stay alert at all times 4) Willingness to learn policies, and enforce when necessary 5) Excellent communication skills Preferred: 1) Customer service experience 2) Security/library experience not required, but appreciated 3) Bystander intervention/de-escalation skills
Position Summary/Job Duties:
We are looking for a candidate who is resilient, approachable, and comfortable with uncomfortable situations. The applicant must be assertive in a respectful manner when needed. Student security guards are responsible for observing, deterring, and reporting violations of library, university, and state laws and regulations. Daily duties for this position include, but are not limited to, opening the building, clearing the library of patrons, securing the facility at closing, as well as assisting patrons with wayfinding and service-related questions. The position requires initiative, self-direction, attention to detail, and an ability to employ tact and discretion on sensitive and/ or stressful situations. Physical Demands:
Must be able to move efficiently through the 13-floor, 350k square-foot facility and respond quickly and calmly to developing situations. Must be able to occasionally move heavy objects.
