Department Overview:
The South laboratory focuses on SCC arising in the rare genetic skin blistering condition, recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (RDEB), a devastating disease caused by mutations in the COL7A1 gene. COL7A1 encodes a protein called type VII collagen that forms connective fibrils linking the outer layer of stratifying epithelia to the underlying tissue.

Schedule:
6-8 hours a week over the summer. Looking for an individual with availability twice a week between 9 am and 4 pm. Shifts would be 2-4 hours long. The job has the potential to continue into the fall

Position Summary/Job Duties:
Perspective employees will be responsible for basic laboratory tasks, including glassware washing, refilling carboys, restocking supplies, and maintaining basic laboratory solutions. General laboratory maintenance, including wiping down benches, filling water baths, and emptying biohazard bins, will be required. Perspective employees should be regularly available to work at least 6 hours per week, though there is some flexibility to accommodate heavy exam weeks, vacations, etc. Availability to work in the lab between 9 AM and 4 PM, M-F, is necessary to ensure proper training and supervision.
Physical Demands:
The position involves standing for up to an hour, lifting at least 10 lbs, and moving a laboratory cart (on wheels) weighing up to 50 lbs.
