Department Overview:

 The Lang Lab is focused on developing biomarkers for different types of cancers. Some of the investigation utilizes locally developed tissue chip platforms to allow studying tumor microenvironment interactions at a microscale.

The Lang Lab is located at the Wisconsin Institutes for Medical Research (WIMR) and near several bus lines.

Schedule:

 12-20 hours per week between the business hours of 8am-5pm Central Time.

Qualifications:

 • Previous laboratory experience and relevant coursework is preferred but not required
• Students available to work during summer break will be given priority
• Sophomores and juniors who can work in our lab for multiple years will be given priority

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently and in a group setting, and be willing to take direction
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Must be dependable and have a positive attitude

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The Lang Lab in the UW Department of Medicine is seeking a motivated and diligent undergraduate with a science major interested in helping contribute to performing daily lab management tasks. The selected candidate will be responsible for performing the following routine lab duties:

• Tissue chip fabrication utilizing silicone molds; on-site training is provided
• Making Solutions
• Autoclaving, handling waste
• Supply Restocking
• General Lab Maintenance

Physical Demands:

This position typically faces light-to-medium physical demands. The job requires standing at lab benches or walking around the room for most of a shift, bending down, kneeling, or reaching high shelves to stock supplies and clean glassware, using steady hands and sharp eye-hand coordination to handle tiny tubes, pipettes, and delicate tools for precise tasks, and occasionally lifting boxes, media bottles, or equipment usually weighing up to 25-50 pounds.
